This can be understood from the fact that people in Nagaland have let their guards down against COVID-19 by doing what they used to do before the pandemic. Perhaps the general public have been suppressed for too long and after Unlock :4 that has relaxed restrictions , it was felt that the worst may have passed. However, the Central government’s Unlock:4 was primarily aimed at restarting academic, religious and economic activities since the nation cannot afford an un-ending lockdown. The Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) has expressed alarm that if people believe that the worst is over and appear least bothered about safety protocols, then there is likelihood that the state could witness community spread, a dangerous stage where the virus is transmitted to a person who has no travel history and has no contact with those infected with the virus. In other words, community transmission is like an epidemic where the virus is present everywhere. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought societies on their knees. The health authorities are still trying to grapple with the magnitude of the threat since there is still much to understand about the deadly virus. In short, the virus wrecks the body’s resistance to diseases, perhaps like HIV and any inherent weakness or ailment could be fatal. Both young who suffer from heart problems, diabetes or kidney problems are at much risk as those over 60 years, whose bodies have weakened resistance to life threatening diseases. Most people who shop, somehow believe that wearing masks alone is enough. However, when they shop, they come into contact with items that may have been infected. Closed up spaces in shops or malls could also contain virus-infected aerosols through coughing or sneezing from those infected with COVID-19. As the world eagerly awaits vaccine against COVID-19 and which is going to be the trillion dollar business for pharmaceuticals; the bitter truth is that these vaccines have a very short span of trials against the backdrop of the furious race to be in the market and could eventually prove that the cure is worse than the disease. Trials take years in order to ensure that side effects are limited. However since the need for the COVID-19 vaccine is very urgent, many nations are hard pressed to deliver or lose the market. According to doctors, the rush to produce the vaccines has led to haste. The resultant consequences is that the side effects will be evident only after a few years down the line. However, a desperate world wants the vaccine and quickly too. Even as the world talks about the effectiveness of the vaccine, another shock was in store. It has now been disclosed that a new strain of the coronavirus, that spreads faster than COVID-19 has been discovered in the UK. According to official sources, a mutated variant of the coronavirus has been discovered in the UK, which has led to a surge in the infection rate there. A number of European countries have banned flights from the UK as the British government warned that the potent new strain of the virus was “out of control” and imposed a stringent new stay-at-home lockdown from Sunday. Indeed the virus and its mutated strains could possibly remain for a long time and in its wake, leave behind wrecked economies and lakhs of deaths and billion infections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Another deadly virus<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[685],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-209391","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-editorial"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/209391","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=209391"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/209391\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=209391"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=209391"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=209391"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
