Both are seen as contenders for the job of prime minister provided their respective parties –Trinamool or Congress- is able to win majority support of other political parties. For the present, both are busy attacking the other to ‘prove’ each is worthier than the other to don the mantle as unifier of the anti-Modi front. Unlike Rahul, whose leadership has been at best below par, Mamata, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a 24X7 politician. She does not have distractions. Her commitment is total, unlike Rahul, who rushes off on foreign trips during some of the nation’s most important political developments, including at the peak of the farmer’s protests. Even Priyanka Gandhi Vadra appears sporadically too, although her appearances are more for phohto op. The almost open hostility between the Trinamool and Congress has only disqualified themselves from the race. In Bengal, Mamata faced not only Modi’s BJP but also the alliance of the Congress and Left. It was justice when neither the Congress and its ally, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M) and other parties failed to win even a single seat in the new West Bengal assembly. The Congress is infamous for shooting its own foot and this continues to be its worst problem. Even many veteran Congress leaders have been either forced out of the party by the Gandhis or suppressed to ensure that no one is allowed to steal the limelight from Rahul. Whether it was Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, who was humiliated by Sonia, mainly at the behest of her children, in favour of a mercurial Navjyot Singh Sidhu; had to leave. Capt. Amarinder has floated a new party and has decided on seat sharing with BJP in 2022. The Congress under the Gandhis, has also humiliated another of its well known party veteran of over five decades- Ghulam Nabi Azad. A month after G-23 wrote that letter to Sonia Gandhi, Azad was removed as AICC general secretary. Six months later, he was not re-nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Last month, he was out of the party’s disciplinary committee. Today, Azad is being wooed by other parties including BJP but has decided to bide his time. Adding more fuel to the TMC-Congress tiff on which party has the credibility to lead the opposition, TMC poll strategist Prashant Kishor( who wanted to play a pivotal role in the Congress but was denied),has pointed out that the Congress lost more than 90 percent of the elections it has fought in the last 10 years and so, it(Congress) does not have the “divine right” to lead the Opposition. Though Mamata does not enjoy the entitlement of a Gandhi, yet she has earned her right to be where she is but lacks the charisma of being accepted as a leader for a national front. Also unfortunately, Mamata is being pitted against Rahul, who still looks, acts and speaks like a political novice. Rahul’s continuance should also prove to be most beneficial for Modi’s continuance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
M vrs R of Indian politics<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[685],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-209735","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-editorial"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/209735","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=209735"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/209735\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=209735"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=209735"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=209735"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
