As the State government had claimed to have constructed several buildings in the past 17 years, an RTI activist has suggested that the government could use these as quarantine centres to house citizens of Nagaland returning now, instead of requisitioning private schools and hostels. <\/p>\n
The RTI activist– ST Yapang said the planning & coordination department had sanctioned huge amounts of money to many Individuals, institutions, NGOs, civil society groups, tribal hohos and village organisations for constructing hostels, institutions, tribal halls, guest houses, lodges, cultural centres, multipurpose buildings, youth centres, working women hostels, EMRS, etc, in almost all districts between 2012 and 2018-19 (See table).<\/p>\n
As per a reply received on his RTI application, out of the 223 buildings constructed during this period, most of them were at Dimapur and Kohima district headquarters. <\/p>\n
He said if the government had really constructed so many buildings as claimed by the planning & coordination department, the problem of accommodating returnees could be solved by utilising all these structures without requisitioning private schools and hostels, which has been opposed by All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association. Yapang urged the government to direct all the deputy commissioners to requisition the buildings in their respective districts and villages to facilitate quarantining of returnees in the interest of Nagaland. <\/p>\n
426 to arrive today<\/strong><\/p>\n A Shramik Special train (Haryana to Nagaland) carrying about 426 stranded citizens of Nagaland is expected to arrive at Dimapur on Monday morning.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a DIPR report stated that a total of 68 returnees reached Dimapur from New Delhi and Dibrugarh by train on May 24 while 15 Kolkata and 12 from Madhya Pradesh arrived by bus and nine from Madhya Pradesh by private vehicle.
