They said the special package had lapsed, but the plight of stranded Nagas have not, adding receipt of complaints and queries regarding the package were stopped even before the beneficiaries could avail the fund.

Mentioning that there were still patients trying to meet their medical expenses even has some of them had already reached home by enduring untold sufferings throughout their stay and journey, the union regretted the delay by the government in paying the stranded people as upon reaching home they would not qualify for receiving the benefit.

NSUD hoped that the one-time assistance would not produce the same result like the previous relief fund where 2,475 Nagas were left out due to bank account issues

As every stranded Naga, irrespective of his or her occupation and background was facing a tough challenge of sustenance and survival, the union demanded that this humanitarian package should not leave out a single stranded citizen of Nagaland due to his or her inability to provide all the required documents.

Asserting that NSUD was committed to serving all community members in every possible way, the representation stated that as COVID-19 cases increased, the challenges and issues had also risen, adding that its executives had been receiving distress calls on a daily basis.

The representation mentioned about the services rendered by the union’s representatives at the risk of exposing themselves while visiting hospitals to attend to emergency calls and sought emergency fund from the chief minister.

NSUD appreciated Rio and all those working on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, besides acknowledging the assistances given to denizens of the State stranded in various cities of India through State Bhawan or directly. The deputy resident commissioner of Nagaland House, Delhi had done a commendable work in this regard, it added.

Claiming that it had been coordinating with different NGOs and North-eastern State bhawans in providing basic needs to stranded people of Nagaland, the union said it had been visiting hospitals to cater to the patients, attending distress calls along with Delhi Police and dealing with various forms of discrimination faced by people from the Northeast since the first week of March 2020.

It also appreciated the successful evacuation of Nagaland’s stranded citizen from Delhi and National Capital Region on June 14 by Shramik Special Train Phase-1 from Delhi to Dimapur.

[679

post-214890","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-nagaland-news
["GET
