Construction of the four-lane arch bridge over Sanuorü river would be completed within 12 months. This was stated by PWD (R&B) south division executive engineer Vizotuo Seletsu, who is supervising the ongoing construction, during a media interaction at the site on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Despite missing the deadline to complete the two-lane arch Sanuorü bridge by March-April, the department and contractors expressed the confidence that the four-lane arch bridge would be completed within the 12 months. Earlier on November 25, 2019, contractors KC Angami and Vilelie Khamo assured chief minister Neiphiu Rio that the two-lane road would be completed by March-April 2020, while the four-lane bridge would be completed and handed over before the 2020 Hornbill Festival.<\/p>\n
It may be mentioned that the bridge over Sanuorü stream was washed away during the 2016 monsoon season.<\/p>\n
During the media interaction, the executive engineer admitted that the department had failed to complete the two-lane bridge by April and attributed this to the poor condition of the Dimapur-Kohima road, due to which the materials could not be brought to the site on time, and lockdown owing to COVID-19 outbreak. However, he assured that irrespective of the monsoon or winter season, the department was committed in completing the bridge within one full working season.<\/p>\n
Explaining that arch was the heart of the bridge, he acknowledged that its construction was taking time and causing delay in the construction. He, however, assured that the two-lane arch would be completed by this month.<\/p>\n
Despite the work order having been issued on July 14, 2016, Seletsu said actual work of earth cutting began only on July 15, 2019. He asserted that finance was not a constraint and claimed that the contractors were giving priority in completing the project at the earliest.<\/p>\n
