Hands-on training programme on banana fibre extraction and basics on handicraft making was jointly organised by STINER-TFC, SASRD NU, Medziphema, Nagaland under the initiative of project in-charge STINER-TFC prof. Akali Sema with Chakesang women welfare society (CWWS) and Nagaland state rural livelihood mission (NSRLM) in Phek and Kiphire district on March 11 and 13, 2021.<\/p>\n
A press release by STINER-TFC, SASRD NU stated that the training was focused on creating awareness among the locals on economic values of banana plant, various avenues that could be generated through it and how STINER as a technology intervention centre could help introduce relevant and need based technologies.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the concept of banana fibre extraction and craft making, project assistant, STINER-TFC, Dr. Sentirenla Changkiri emphasised on the importance of utilising the rich resources of the region and developing them into economic generating activities.<\/p>\n
She maintained that banana plantation in the entire state still laid a waste, while in other states, the waste was converted into various economic and employment generating avenues.<\/p>\n
Changkiri stated that the locals cold achieve the same with right technology intervention and commitment. Further, she stressed on mass production of the fibre while mentioning that the state was unable to meet its export demand and how the project could be made into employment generating enterprise through cluster formation in the region.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the participants were given hands-on training on fibre extraction and basics on handicraft making by trainers from STINER-TFC.<\/p>\n
In Pfutsero, the programme was chaired by AO, SDAO, Pfutsero, Potsulu Theluo and opening remarks by executive director, CWWS, Pfutsero. While in Kiphire, the programme was chaired by AC Livelihood, NSRLM, Pungro block, T Lemteshi and opening remarks by BPM Kiphire, Ripise. <\/p>\n
Altogether, 31 participants in Phek district and 75 in Kiphire district comprising of SHGs, house wives and unemployed youths attended and participated in the training programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
