Putting an end to controversies and speculations over the site for the proposed medical college in Mon district, a new site was officially finalised Tuesday after it was approved earlier by Konyak legislators.<\/p>\n
The new site, some 5 kms from Mon district hospital was finalised by minister-in-charge of Mon district Paiwang Konyak as per the directive of Konyak legislators <\/p>\n
Earlier, on March 11, the Konyak legislators adopted three resolutions – shifting the earlier site from Chi Ponghoa to Chah-yo; reduction in purchase rate of land at Rs 3 lakh per acre and entrusting the overall responsibility to identify new site to minister in-charge of Mon district P Paiwang Konyak. <\/p>\n
In pursuance of the approval, Paiwang Konyak along with line department officials surveyed the new site at Mon village on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Nagaland Post, Paiwang said he surveyed the new location along with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mon, Superintendent of Police (SP), Mon Village Council chairman, Mon Village Students’ Union president, Konyak Union president, BJP Mon district unit president, Mon village head GB, power executive engineer, PHED executive engineer, R&B executive engineer, DLRSO, KBBB executive secretary and others. Paiwang said prior to the survey, he had consulted with chief minister Neiphiu Rio and also informed the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) principal secretary and then gone ahead after getting their nod. <\/p>\n
After the survey , Paiwang said a meeting was held at DC’s conference hall where all department officials expressed satisfaction with the new site and gave their consent. He said the selection was consistent with the guidelines of the H&FW department.<\/p>\n
Paiwang also informed that Mon Village Council (MVC) agreed to provide the required plot to the State government at the rate of Rs 3 lakh per acre as proposed by Konyak elected members. <\/p>\n
He said the MVC would be the sole authority of land and that there would be no individual ownership over it. <\/p>\n
While the minimum land required to set up a medical college was 30 acres, the minister said the Konyak legislators insisted that 50 acres of the land be purchased outright in consideration of the availability and also the rate being cheaper. While acknowledging MVC for its positive approach toward setting up of the medical college, Paiwang also appealed to the H&FW department not to delay execution of the project.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, MVC at its meeting “unanimously agreed” to provide the land for the proposed medical college in the interest of people in Chah-yo area, besides agreeing to accept the proposed rate of Rs 3 lakh per acre of land.<\/p>\n
The council also resolved that there would be no individual landowner and the village shall be the sole authority of land and act as landowner as per the customary practice.<\/p>\n
The meeting authorised Tunwang Angh chairman Mon Village Council, Tongam deputy Angh, Tangao head GB, Nokpen president Mon village citizen and Rev M Chemyuh as signatories for land deed agreement with the State government.<\/p>\n
It may be mentioned that after the foundation stone for the proposed medical college was laid on February 26, Chi Village Council (CVC) announced withdrawal of the No Objection Certificate, issued earlier for setting up the proposed Mon Medical College at Chi Ponghoa in Mon district.<\/p>\n
The chief minister had also hinted that a new site could be opted for the medical college if the issue was not resolved.<\/p>\n
