He mentioned that the union was an important pillar for NSF.

He said the 65th anniversary of the Naga national flag hoisting was a “celebration of the identity, rights, traditions and cultural practices of free Naga people”.

Reflecting how so many lives had been martyred in the past for the Naga cause, he remarked that there was no greater sacrifice than laying one’s life while defending Naga identity and for getting freedom from any forceful subjugation.

Kikon said Nagas were indebted to Naga leaders for their sacrifices, adding that the commemoration of Naga flag hoisting was on occasion to reflect on the sacrifices of past leaders and their great legacy.

Former RSU president Benjamin Lorin shared the history of Parashen, stating that the exposure of Nagas to outside world during World War I led to an awakening of consciousness among them as a distinct group of people inhabiting the South East Asian region and on the need to live as an independent and free nation.

As the Nagas commemorated the first federal republic flag hoisting day, he said the occasion should make everyone look back to the more than 100 years of Naga struggle.

“As young leaders, the future is in our hands,” Lorin remarked, and called for rededication to the cause “our” forefathers and parents had sacrificed their lives for and march together in unity.

The programme was chaired by Rengma Selo Zi president Kenneth Kath.

[679

post-229120","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-nagaland-news
["GET
