Contending that the State-wide total lockdown was paying dividends, nodal officer for Dimapur district for Covid-19 Y Kikheto Sema said the district was showing a declining trend in Covid cases.<\/p>\n

Interacting with newsmen here on Monday, Kikheto claimed that the positivity rate in the district, which was 61% until last few weeks, had presently declined to 50% and he termed this as satisfactory.<\/div>\n
He said Dimapur district currently had 2,509 active cases out of the State’s total 5,049 active cases as on May 30, accounting for roughly 49.63%, while 2,231 (51%) individuals were under home isolation out of the State’s 4,364. <\/div>\n
Similarly, out of the 236 Covid patients admitted in various hospitals across the State, 162 were admitted in Dimapur (68.64%).<\/div>\n
Kikheto said 30,027 tests were carried out in the district from January till date, out of which 5,179 tested positive (17.24%). He said he had discussed the matter with the medical team and was optimistic that the positive rate would further decline by the end of lockdown.<\/div>\n
Admitting that the Covid mortality rate in the district was still high at 4.11% (from January 2021 till date), he also revealed that out of the 214 Covid deaths, only 11 received the first dose of vaccine, while the remaining victims were not vaccinated. <\/div>\n
Vaccinated individuals accounted for 5.14% of the deaths, mostly with co-morbidities, whereas non-vaccinated individuals made up the remaining 94.86%. And out of the 214 Covid deaths, 148 (69%) were male and 66 female (31%). <\/div>\n
He asserted that vaccine was proven to be safe and advised the public not to hesitate in getting vaccinated. The nodal officer urged those spreading false information about vaccination on various social media platforms not to confuse others even if they wish not to get vaccinated. <\/div>\n
In this regard, he directed deputy commissioner (DC) Rajesh Soundararajan and commissioner of police (CP)  Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo to take appropriate action against such persons as per the provisions of law.<\/div>\n
Mentioning that pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plant at District Hospital Dimapur had received certification, the nodal officer said the plant had already started functioning since May 25. <\/div>\n
He said the State government had arranged the required oxygen cylinders within two weeks, adding that the district had been allocated 856 oxygen cylinders (22% of oxygen available in Nagaland) and claimed that there was no shortage of oxygen cylinders in the State, including in Dimapur.<\/div>\n
Kikheto appreciated private hospitals and Private Doctors’ Association for coming to the rescue in the fight against Covid pandemic. He announced that Team Dimapur had launched a website http:\/\/teamdimapurcovid.com to enable the public to know the status of hospitals.<\/div>\n
He appreciated all frontline workers, particularly the healthcare workers, for their sacrifices in the fight against Covid pandemic. He admitted that it was difficult, but not impossible to defeat the virus, stressing that the war must go on. He also expressed zero tolerance for those harassing the frontline workers.<\/div>\n
The nodal officer appealed to the citizens of Dimapur not to panic but to put their trust on God, remain disciplined and get vaccinated to protect themselves.<\/div>\n
Soundararajan, who too was present during the press conference, said the State government had always given preference to Dimapur in terms of funds, medical resources and other consumables.<\/div>\n
Tetseo, on his part, claimed that crime rate had gone down since the lockdown began and attributed this to minimal public movement and activities.<\/div>\n
