Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya on Wednesday said that road connectivity was a political job and should be done by politicians.<\/div>\n
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of the 48th General Conference of Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) at Zutovi village, Acharya questioned: \u201cYou have good leaders and government but where is the governance?\u201d and pointed to the fact that every MLA was getting Rs. 2 crore annually for their constituency development.<\/div>\n
\u201cRoad connectivity is a political job, it should be done by your politicians, bureaucrats, contractors and you have to question them. Stand against corruption, it is the biggest disease. Every year, Nagaland has a budget of Rs 1500 crore, where does it go?\u201d he added.<\/div>\n
Acharya pointed out that the Central government had made it mandatory for every MLA and MP to \u201cadopt\u201d a village, \u201cBut none of them have come to me saying they have adopted a village,\u201d he added.<\/div>\n
On the occasion, SKK had submitted a representation to the Governor, who is also the chief reactor of Nagaland University (NU), wherein they urged him to direct concerned authorities to look into the deplorable conditions of all the roads connecting Lumami, the headquarters of NU.<\/div>\n
Acknowledging the importance of the representation, Acharya compared the neighbouring Tezpur University with NU, both started at the same year, and said the former had progressed in leaps and bounds while NU was yet to see development in many areas.<\/div>\n
He once again brought up the need for imparting skills instead of just degrees. and spoke about the diminishing work culture where nobody wanted to be a welder, electrician, plumber etc. \u201cThese are the jobs required in every industry,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n
Acharya mentioned the case of NU Lumami students demanding that a truck be provided to them at least once in a week to go to the Assam border for purchasing vegetables and termed it a \u201clamenting story\u201d.<\/div>\n
On school education sector, he said that the trend of government schools attracting only the poor and the rich sending their children to private schools has to change and called on young people to be instrumental to this change. He also said that there was deficiency in school infrastructure and added \u201cfunds are coming in for Mid-Day Meal Scheme but where are they vanishing?\u201d<\/div>\n
On the Naga political issue, he expressed hope that the peace process would finalize either before or immediately after Christmas.<\/div>\n
The Governor had high praises for SKK organizing committee conducting programme in the Sumi dialect and said that \u201cMother tongue is God-given, be proud to be a Sumi but it does not mean about hating others. Without your mother tongue, you have no identity and you will be nowhere,\u201d<\/div>\n
In his brief speech, NSF president, Kesosul Christopher Ltu stressed on the issue of illegal immigrants and said that it cannot be contained unless we embrace a better work-culture.<\/div>\n
He said that the state economy being controlled by others will sabotage the future and called on all to promote each other within the society for a vibrant economy.<\/div>\n
SKK president, Ninoto Awomi paid rich tributes to the pioneers and former leaders of the union in his keynote address. He highlighted the issues taken up by SKK like transfer with post in the Education Department, SARDP, illegal immigrants in Zunheboto town, Mission Doing Right etc.<\/div>\n
Sumi Hoho president, Hekhushe Shikhu urged upon youngsters to introspect and find what they can contribute to society. \u201cRevoke disunity amongst yourself and appreciate each other for the betterment of our society,\u201d he said. He also encouraged the preserving and promotion of the Sumi dialect.<\/div>\n
Central Organizing Committee, Convenor, S. Zhevihe Swu chaired the programme while Rev Dr. Hevukhu Achumi Executive Secretary, WSBAK pronounced the invocation. <\/div>\n
