It was published on May 29 2021, Nagaland Post in the national news section which read “Take care of children orphaned by Covid-19”. I write as a believer in good sense of governance. Wherein the Supreme Court of India directed the State authorities to immediately identify the children who lost their parents due to Covid and provide them relief. According to data provided by the women and child development ministry, as the second wave of covid-19 proceeds with chaos around 577 children lost both parents in its wake of pandemic between April 01 and May 24, 2021.<\/p>\n
I am perturbed at this crucial time of pandemic where many of the Children have got orphaned due to the devastating period of Covid-19. We never know what may happen tomorrow but if one may judge a priori helping the Orphans will impact their lives during this time of difficulties. To me the Government, Churches, Homes and other organisations at various capacities should take this, as a matter of concern. To combat this crisis, several state governments have stepped up to ensure that help is reached for those who have been affected. The Madhya Pradesh Government was among the first few states to have come up with a dedicated package to assist children who lost their parents due to pandemic. The government would be providing free education till graduation level, along with a monthly stipend of Rs5000, (according to a report in The Firstpost) to which the nobel ideas has been followed up by various states, ensuring their Children are not left alone, under obligation as the saying goes “We become stronger together” but we only become stronger when we reach, listened and start to act, if not, the problem only seem to perpetuate. The proponent can surely agree during this time of chaos on how far the Nagaland state Government is acting surely on the future of these children? It is pertinent to note, a vacation bench of justice L N Rao and Aniruddha issued advisory to the authorities concern for the protection of Children who lost their parents due to Covid-19 complication. When there is a child without a family, the state becomes the guardian. Under Indian law, an orphaned child must be seen by a concern government and is put in an institution if there are no relatives to look after them. It is also important to note that adoption without prior plea from the government is illegal under section 80 and 81 of the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of Children) Act, 2015 and such acts are punishable. To conclude, I would like to end my emphasis taken from the book of John 14;18, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”<\/p>\n
I hope our Government understands the agony of the children, with our Constitutional Morality and Principle of Justice, Equity and Good Conscience. <\/p>\n
