Member secretary, central silk board, Ranjit Ranjan Okandiar launched the Samarth scheme for capacity building in textile sector at sericulture office, Dimapur on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to a DIPR report, while addressing the gathering, Okandiar said that Nagaland could lead in the development of Eri silk which he said could become one of the strengths of the state. He encouraged the people to give proper attention to eri production and to enhance the quality development with the implementation of the scheme.<\/p>\n
Delivering the keynote address, nodal officer, Samarth scheme, Dr. Siddique Ahmed said that the villages in Nagaland were united by a major occupation which was handloom, handicraft and sericulture.<\/p>\n
He also said that development of a particular state or a country totally depended on two major factors such as skill and knowledge of its people which he said were the guiding force for economic growth and social development. Speaking on the importance of skill development, he said that the main reason behind the unemployment problem was lack of vocational trainings during formal education. He said India had one of the youngest populations with 62% of 15-59 years and that if those workable force were skilled any requirement could be fulfilled.<\/p>\n
He was optimistic that with the launching of the scheme, the quality and productivity would be improved to strengthen the economy of the state. Director, sericulture department, Nagaland, T. Sanny Pongener said that farmers of Nagaland had been practising sericulture in conventional and unscientific manner and progress of the industry was not much encouraging up to IX plan period. He however said this had drastically changed after implementation of catalytic development program under the technical guidance and supervision of central silk board.<\/p>\n
In this regard, he expressed gratitude to the member secretary SCP and senior officers of SCP for their inspiration, cooperation and guidance towards successful implementation of the projects.
