It said since becoming chief minister for the first time in 2003, he “indulged in appeasing and empowering civil societies to such an extent, that the authority of the government has been severely compromised on countless occasions.”

NPCC also cited the August 18 consultative meeting as a prime example, where the state government abdicated its responsibility to civil societies when it “empowered 14 tribes to settle the land dispute between two villages along Dimapur-Peren boundary.”

NPCC further termed as “a bundle of contradictions,” Rio’s justification in formation of opposition-less government under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to pursue early Naga solution.

NPCC said when government of India had announced that formal negotiations with all groups had officially ended on October 31, 2019, Rio’s “relentless attempt to keep the pot boiling is being watched by silent majority of the people of Nagaland”. It said the “biased approach of chief minister towards different groups is well known and this is the one of the major hindrances in hammering out a final agreement as peace continues to elude our state.”

Further, NPCC threw a challenge on the 60 legislators who have come together under UDA that since they are professing sincerity for an early Naga solution by playing the role of facilitator, the 60 legislators “should also be prepared to be held fully responsible in the event of any delay or breakdown in achieving final solution.”

NPCC reminded all legislators of past resolutions both within and outside the assembly, that they are committed to resign and pave the way for early solution is yet to be honoured despite the situation being ripe.

NPCC also hit out at Rio who had hailed the tribal bodies for the recent unopposed election of his party candidate for the 58 Shamatore-Chessore constituency. It said Rio’s successful maneuvering with tons of promises and commitments will be tested in the days ahead.

On its part, NPCC said the party not having fielded a candidate in the bypoll had nothing to do with respecting the decision of the UDA government.

[679

post-240568","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-nagaland-news
["GET
