Unidentified armed miscreants reportedly opened indiscriminate firing at Wapher village Shamator under Tuensang district on December 17, at around 5:30 a.m. damaging some residential buildings and huts.<\/p>\n

Vehemently condemning the firing incident, the Wapher Village Citizens’ Union (WVCU) said that the dastardly attack was carried out “with criminal intent to kill innocent villagers.”<\/p>\n

In a press release, WVCU president Thomas Toreph and general secretary J Tochumong have, however, said that “fortunately, by God’s grace no one was injured or killed in the incident.” <\/p>\n

The union said that a first information report (FIR) has also been lodged with Shamator police station in connection with the incident. <\/p>\n

WVCU has demanded that the state government thoroughly investigate the matter and arrest those responsible for “this reprehensible incident”.<\/p>\n

Failure of the government to take action, the union cautioned that “the public of Wapher shall have the right to defend the respect and dignity of the village.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU), the apex student body of Tikhir tribe, also vehemently condemned the firing incident. <\/p>\n

In a press release, TSU president Temong Y Tikhir and general secretary Wongsuthong T said that the “intentional attack with an ill motive” has created confusion. The union questioned as to why armed miscreants numbering around fifty fired rounds of bullets around the village during this festive season?<\/p>\n

TSU maintained that there were ways to amicably talk and discuss on any issue without using bullets or weapons. “But, why this act of arm talks take place in this peaceful environment?” TSU questioned.<\/p>\n

Further, the union has appealed to the responsible authority to investigate into the incident and initiate necessary action against the perpetrators at the earliest. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
