Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) is all set to organise short online film competition 2021 under the title, “The New Normal” in collaboration with Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA).<\/p>\n
Announcing this during a press conference at hotel East Gate on Monday, members of the association said the whole idea of the competition was to create a platform for the younger folks who are getting into film making.<\/p>\n
FAN member Yapangnaro said topic for the competition “The New Normal” was aptly coined especially since everyone was now compelled to adapt to a new way of life post pandemic. She added that through the competition, the organisers plan to let the public get involved as there would be no age bar and that it would open to all Nagas both within and outside the State. Renowned Naga filmmaker Kivini Shohe added that with everything now going online, she said the organisers thought it would be proper for the competition to also go online.<\/p>\n
She observed that many young people were well versed in technological gadgets and apps and therefore their participation in the competition would be vital as it may open up new doors for them.<\/p>\n
Kivini said there were numerous untold stories especially after the outbreak of the pandemic and therefore those stories needed to be heard.<\/p>\n
“If we don’t tell our stories ourselves, we cannot expect someone else to tell our story for us,” she said.<\/p>\n
Besides expressing oneself through their films, Kivini said the organisers were hoping that the participants would also hone their skills along the way.<\/p>\n
Joint director, DIPR, Asangla Imsong who was also present at the presser said the department was hoping to hold the 3rd Nagaland Film Festival during the Hornbill although final preparations were yet to be decided.<\/p>\n
She disclosed that Nagaland could become a hotspot for film making and shooting and for which the department was making necessary modalities. <\/p>\n
Imsong said there was an urgent need to start a Film Facilitation office in the State and that the department was also drafting a film policy.<\/p>\n
She further disclosed that a film institute for the State was also in the pipeline. Prizes for the winners are Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 along with certificates for the first, second and three places respectively. Criteria for the competition are: Submissions are open from October 12 to November 12. Film length should be 10 minutes with a maximum size not exceeding 700 mb. Films can be shot on phone or video camera and language of the film should be in English or in any Naga vernacular with English subtitles. It may be mentioned here that FAN is an umbrella organisation of film related professionals formed in 2018. <\/p>\n
The organisation is 50 members strong and consists of producers, directors, cinematographers, photographers, actors and others.<\/p>\n
