She said she likes the smile on a person’s face after tasting her food and that she remembers people by the food they prepare. He said in the past 8 years the event had produced a good number of winners who went on to make great dishes and also became successful entrepreneurs.

He said Naga chef was supposed to be the epicentre at the recently held Hornbill Festival since the event had brought Naga food to the forefront of the festival.

However, the tragedy at Oting village brought everything to a standstill and even as the finale was held Naga hearts were bleeding and the tears of Naga people are yet to dry, Abu said.

He added that Naga homes which were supposed to be bright during this Christmas season were dark and that the season won’t be the same for those who had lost their loved ones. Abu extended solidarity to the Konyak people on behalf of the Naga youths and that the incident was a tragedy for the whole Nagas and not just the Konyak community. He said at this juncture stopping was not an option for the Nagas as it would mean the people had conceded defeat.

The only way to overcome such challenges was for everyone to give their best and strive towards excellence and success at the same time show to the world that Nagas could reach the highest standards across all sectors.

And to make this happen and realise this aspiration, Naga leaders across the board must give their best, Naga leaders be it in governance, civil societies or any other sector he said. Our indigenous cuisine is not just food, every morsel embodies the true Naga way of life passed down through generations. Naga Chef aspires to keep the age-old Naga recipes alive, Kevilezo said.

Panel of judges for the event included Rovi Chasie, a well-seasoned culinary expert who has published 2 cook books and has been promoting Naga food for over two decades.

Alemjungla Jamir, the founder of Naga Bowl Express, Dimapur and Joel Basumatari, the proprietor of Saucy Joe’s, founder of slow food community, Nagaland and the winner of NE Food show, 2019.
