Naga Students\u2019 Federation (NSF) has urged upon the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to intervene and ensure that residents of Balijan \u2018C\u2019 Khan Basti are protected from the notices issued for eviction drive.
In a letter to KAAC chief executive member, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary S\u00fcpuni Ng Philo, pointed out that 80 per cent of the land owners at Balijan \u2018C\u2019 Khan Basti were Nagas. They said Naga residents, who bought lands and constructed houses with GPF and pension money after retirement, were in danger of being robbed of their rights and privileges due to the \u201cimpugned notice.\u201d
NSF also said that residents of Balijan ‘C’ Khan Basti are law abiding and peace-loving citizens living under the administrative jurisdiction of KAAC, Government of Assam. It said these residents freely exercise adult franchise at KA enjoy all welfare schemes and availing electricity provided by the government of Assam.
It the light of the above, NSF has appealed to the KAAC to \u201clook into the matter based on merit\u201d and ensure that residents of Balijan \u2018C\u2019 Khan Basti were protected from the eviction drive. NSF cautioned that \u201cany action to the contrary will render the residents homeless and throw them out on the streets thereby opening up avenues for social disorders and communal disharmony.\u201d
It further appealed to KAAC to ensure that the lives, properties and means of livelihood of the Nagas living in the border belt were protected.
It may be recalled that chief minister Neiphiu Rio had also written to his Assam counterpart seeking the latter\u2019s intervention to protect the lives and properties of Naga residing in those areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
