Minister for PWD (Housing & Mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum on Wednesday inaugurated a Language Translation Centre (LTC) and other components at Fazl Ali College (FAC) Mokokchung.
In a press release, FAC information and publicity cell informed that while speaking at the programme, special guest, Tongpang emphasised on the importance of mother tongue and said the LTC was a great initiative to impart knowledge in a broader way.
The minister stressed on cultivation of medicinal and ornamental plants and the benefits of having a Soil Testing Lab which would benefit the local farmers.
Further, he said that the Browsing Centre was a good provision for students to sell and showcase their creativity.
The programme was chaired by HoD, department of Ao & secretary LTC, Toshisangla, Ungma Baptist Church pastor Rev. Noklen Lkr said the dedicatory prayer, HoD, department of English & director LTC, Dr. Lanurenla gave a detailed concept note of LTC and others while a special song was presented by FAC Students\u2019 Union.
Short speeches were also delivered by Jemti Mollier, Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, AKM, Chuchuyimpang Village Council and Mokokchung Village Council.
Later, a discussion hour was conducted by FAC principal, Dr. Temjenwapang while benediction was said by Union Church FAC pastor, Rev. Lima Lemdur.
The programme was also attended by deputy commissioner Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir, additional superintendent of police and well-wishers along with faculty members, non-teaching staff and students.
It may be mentioned that objectives of LTC include: translation of literary works in English to Ao and vice versa; research on Ao oral literature and translate them into English; to publish books on Ao Language and literature and to offer certificate courses in language translation.
The resource centre is an initiative of FAC Uniform Committee which designs and avails uniforms to students at cheap prices while also availing a window for students to sell their products to encourage skill-based activities.
Meanwhile, Child Care Centre was established for the welfare of working parents of young children in need of care and to provide the facility for child care to teaching faculty, students and non-teaching staff of the college.
With a need to promote sustainable propagation of valuable germplasm (plant species) found in the state, the department of Botany decided to establish the Biotech Lab to train students by providing hands-on training in tissue culture and use of modern molecular and biotechnological equipment.
It may be mentioned that the Mini Soil Testing Laboratory was installed by the department of Soil and Water Conservation, Mokokchung, on February 18 at FAC under North Ongpangkong block.
The initiative is part of the objective of the department to provide quantitative soil testing kit and allow farmer\u2019s easy access to soil testing services while the Internet Browsing Centre is an extension of traditional library to modern library keeping in pace with technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
