The movie collected $36.8 million from 4,302 theatres between Friday and Sunday, representing only a 45 per cent decline from last weekend, reports variety.com.<br>Those ticket sales push \u2018The Batman\u2019 past $300 million in North America, making the comic book adaptation the second pandemic-era movie to cross that benchmark after \u2018Spider-Man: No Way Home\u2019.<br>At the international box office, the film opened in China, where 43 per cent of the country\u2019s theatres are closed due to a Covid resurgence to a muted $12.1 million. In total, \u2018The Batman\u2019 added $49.1 million from 76 overseas markets, taking its global total to a mighty $598 million.<br>Those returns represent a needed commercial win for Warner Bros., which spent $200 million to produce \u2018The Batman\u2019 and many millions more to market the film to audiences across the world.<br>Three new movies opened nationwide, but the manga adaptation \u2018Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie\u2019, slasher thriller \u2018X\u2019, and the Focus Features mystery drama \u2018The Outfit\u2019 did not pose a threat to \u2018The Batman\u2019. In the second place on domestic box office charts, the \u2018Jujutsu Kaisen 0\u2019 notched a remarkable $17.6 million from 2,340 locations in its debut.<br>Anime films have been increasingly popular in North America, and Funimation, which recently merged with Crunchyroll and is mostly owned by Sony Pictures, has been at the forefront. Last spring, the film company opened \u2018Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train\u2019 to $21.2 million, a huge result at a time when cinemas were operating at reduced capacity.<br>\u201cThis is a terrific opening,\u201d says David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research.<br>\u201cReviews are exceptional for this and for all of Funimation\/Crunchyroll movies. They have not missed.\u201d (IANS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, \u2018X\u2019 landed in fourth place with $4.2 million from 2,865 venues. Those numbers mark a quieter start, especially considering the loud praise \u2018X\u2019 received after premiering at the South by Southwest film festival earlier this month.<br>However, Gross points out: \u201cHorror is not expensive to make, clever cinematography, editing and sound design go a very long way. \u2018X\u2019 should recover its costs and make a few dollars after all ancillary money is counted.\u201d<br>Ti West wrote and directed \u2018X\u2019, which follows actors making an adult film in rural Texas. But once the reclusive hosts, an elderly couple, catch the guests in the act, things get messy.<br>Variety\u2019s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman promises that \u2018X\u2019 will \u201cearn your fear\u201d.<br>He calls the movie \u201ca deliberate, loving and meticulous homage that isn\u2019t simply trying to cash in on the legacy of the greatest horror film of the last half century\u201d.<br>\u2018The Outfit\u2019 debuted in eighth place, amassing a soft $1.5 million from 1,324 locations.<br>Directed by Graham Moore and starring Mark Rylance and Zoey Deutch, \u2018The Outfit\u2019 has gotten positive reviews and holds a 91 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.<br>Tom Holland\u2019s video game adaptation \u2018Uncharted\u2019, now in its fifth weekend of release, pulled ahead of \u2018X\u2019 on box office charts to secure third place.<br>Channing Tatum\u2019s canine adventure \u2018Dog\u2019 took the No. 5 spot, pushing \u2018Spider-Man: No Way Home\u2019 out of the top five for the first time in 14 weeks.
