Elliott offered his comments during a promotional panel for his series \u201c1883\u201d, a spin-off of \u201cYellowstone\u201d for Paramount+, featured in Deadline\u2019sContenders TV event, reports \u2018Variety\u2019.
\u201cI wasn\u2019t very articulate about it. I didn\u2019t articulate it very well,\u201d Elliott said. \u201cI said some things that hurt people and I feel terrible about that\u2026 I (said) that I thought Jane Campion was a brilliant director. I want to apologise to the cast of \u2018The Power of the Dog\u2019 — brilliant actors all, in particular Benedict Cumberbatch\u2026 I can only say that I\u2019m sorry and I am. I am.\u201d
Elliott went on to apologise for how his comments were received by the gay community.
\u201cThe gay community has been incredible to me my entire career. And I mean by entire career, from before I got started in this town. Friends on every level, in every job description — up until today, with my agent, my dear friend of a number of years. I\u2019m sorry that I hurt any of those friends and someone I loved and anyone else by the words that I used,\u201d Elliott continued.
Elliott\u2019s original comments regarding \u2018The Power of the Dog\u2019 emerged when the actor appeared as a guest on the \u2018WTF Podcast With Marc Maron\u2019, in which the hour-long interview turned to the topic of Netflix\u2019s western. (IANS)
Elliott compared the film\u2019s depiction of cowboys to Chippendale dancers and seemed perturbed by Benedict Cumberbatch\u2019s portrayal of a closeted gay ranch hand.
\u201cThat\u2019s what all these f*king cowboys in that movie looked like\u2026 They\u2019re running around in chaps and no shirts. There\u2019s all these allusions of homosexuality throughout the movie,\u201d Elliott said at the time. \u201cWhere\u2019s the western in this western?\u201d When asked to respond to Elliott\u2019s comments, Campion didn\u2019t hold back in retaliating, telling Variety, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, he was being a little bit of a B-<\/em>––<\/em>-*.
