While the BJP continues to be on a campaign-mode since 2014 , the Congress continues to be in ICU since 2014. Today the AAP is challenging the Congress by projecting itself as the alternative to head a likely opposition alliance against BJP. After winning Punjab from the Congress and now ruling in two states including Delhi, the AAP is now focussing on Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh which go to the polls by end of 2022. AAP leaders are already on the ground. On the other hand, the Congress, which also rules two states (Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan), is still in a comatose state. The party is unable to think and act even as Rahul remained clueless and Sonia desperate for solutions. The root cause of the Congress\u2019 ailment is the role of the veteran Gandhi loyalists who reject any notion of giving up their privileged positions solely on the strength of having a hold over the Gandhi family. India goes to the polls in 2024 and there isn\u2019t any more time left for the Congress to resurrect itself from the comatose state. Today, prominent leaders, especially the youth have left the Congress because they realise that they have no future in the family party. Despite reams having been written about the problems within and the need for a thorough revamp, the veteran family loyalists still see themselves as indispensible. Their hold over the party is ensured if Rahul continues to be the man to see over all party affairs; since Sonia is hardly in a condition to be proactive. After having failed to retain Punjab and regain power in Uttarakhand and Goa, the Congress became more desperate. Rahul and Priyanka only managed to make it worse for the party. Rahul in particular, proved a total flop since 2014 and again repeated it after taking over as president in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. It is clear that the Gandhi family is completely incapable of helping the party win the elections. The Gandhi magic no longer works. They have been reduced to fading campaign stars. The people who attend their rallies do so for various reasons and least of which is to vote for the party. Rahul is a poor communicator while Priyanka\u2019s claim as an option is merely on being an Indira-look alike. But that is as far as it goes. To make matters worse for Priyanka, her colourful and controversial husband Robert Vadra has been sounding out the possibility of him contesting elections. This family adventurism has to end. The challenge is to change the concept that though the Gandhi family are Congress but Congress is not the Gandhi family. The late realisation has Congress reach out to renowned political strategist Pashant Kishor or PK as he is popularly known, to revive the party. To their credit and after having led the party to disasters, the Gandhi family has accepted that they need PK. However the veterans within the party are not sold to the idea since they fear the induction of PK will end their hold over the Gandhis and the party. PK has made it clear that Rahul should not lead the party but someone who is capable elected by the party. Only time will tell whether PK\u2019s effort will be like much needed transfusion or proving that it\u2019s too little and too late?.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
