The NCB raid was led by highly controversial Sameer Wankhede, who was then the agency’s Mumbai zonal director. The dismissal of the case against Aryan and others, has clearly put controversial IRS officer Sameer Wankhede in deep trouble as it meant that he had subjected the suspects to ordeal, indignity and mental trauma on account of falsified charges. The superstar’s son (Aryan) was earlier released on bail on October 30,2021. Aryan’s name interestingly, does not figure in the NCB’s 6000-page chargesheet. An interesting facet about the controversial Sameer Wankhede was revealed by NCP minister Nawab Malik, who had claimed the NCB raid was fake and an attempt to extort money from leading film stars. Malik had also alleged that Wankhede was a Muslim but had submitted a forged caste certificate to the at the time of taking the central services examination and seeking appointment to a post reserved for Scheduled Caste. The NCP minister had also accused him of fraudulently securing a licence for a bar and restaurant in Navi Mumbai over two decades ago. Following Malik’s complaint, the district caste verification committee conducted a probe and submitted its report. In the probe into the bar licence complaint, Thane collector found that Wankhede, though ineligible as he was then 17-years-old, had secured the permit on October 27, 1997. The bar licence was cancelled as per the provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and a case was filed against Wankhede. Now, the Mumbai district caste certificate scrutiny committee has summoned Wankhede on June 8. Wankhede has challenged the proceedings before the district committee, but the inquiry is still on. He has moved the Bombay HC challenging the Thane collector’s report and the criminal proceedings. This is the background of the so-called NCB zonal director and once touted as the rising start of the inspector raj. To add to the twist, Sameer Wankhede had utilised the services of another notorious offender Kiran Gosavi who was seen arresting Aryan Khan. Gosavi was utilised by Wankhede as a witness in the Aryan Khan case extensively and both were seen in several photos after Aryan Khan’s arrest. However after Gosavi’s selfie with Aryan inside the NCB office had gone viral, it came to the fore that Gosavi had multiple cases against him and was a wanted accused. Gosavi was arrested by Kelva police in Palghar in December 2021 for allegedly duping two persons of Rs 1.65 lakh by promising them a job in Malaysia and leaving them stranded at a Kerala airport. He had also been earlier arrested by the Pune police in November 2021 in another cheating case. As Nawab Malik began to let loose serious allegations against Wankhede, the Aryan Khan case turned into a political slugfest between the SS-led MVC coalition and BJP. Nawab Malik was subsequently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. The Maharashtra BJP had initially batted for Wankhede but Mukul Rohtagi, Aryan’s lawyer put up a spirited defence. Mukul Rohatagi is a Senior Counsel in the Supreme Court and former Attorney General of India. Now the accuser –Wankhede- has become the accused and justice will be fully achieved if such chameleons are brought to book.

Finally justice was put on track after the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) Friday gave a clean chit to Aryan Khan and 14 others in the Cordelia drugs case related to the October 2021 raid on a Goa-bound cruise ship.
