{"id":27307,"date":"2017-09-28T23:52:17","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T23:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2017\/09\/28\/konyaks-celebrate-lao-ong-mo-festival-in-mon\/"},"modified":"2017-09-28T23:52:17","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T23:52:17","slug":"konyaks-celebrate-lao-ong-mo-festival-in-mon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2017\/09\/28\/konyaks-celebrate-lao-ong-mo-festival-in-mon\/","title":{"rendered":"Konyaks celebrate Lao-ong Mo festival in Mon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/WZFKFCSKIILSJAPXOFNF.jpg><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Two-day Lao-ong Mo festival celebration got underway on Thursday with much pomp and gaiety at local ground, Mon town as hundreds gathered to celebrate the post harvest festival of Konyaks Naga.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>The first day of the celebration was graced by minister for RD and REPA, E.E Pangteang and Wancho Council, Arunachal, chairman, Shompha Wangsa as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.<\/div>\n<div>Extending festive greetings to the gathering, Pangteang stated that Aoleang and Lao-ong Mo festivals (both festivals of Konyaks) were celebrated not just to mark the occasion but to keep the traditions alive and to keep the younger generations informed of the traditional and customary practices.<\/div>\n<div>Stating that no festival was celebrated without its significance, he said Laon-ong Mo festival signifies the praises and thanks giving with the coming of harvest for the blessings to follow home.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Appreciating the Konyak Union for organizing \u201cHarvest nite extravaganza\u201d during the two-day festival celebration, he said such co-curricular activities would provide platform for the youths to showcase their talents.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The minister also encouraged the gathering to opt for farming and craft-making instead of seeking for imported materials.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Delivering a short speech, Shompha Wangsa stated that though the Wanchos and Konyaks are divided by artificial boundary, they are of one race and one family sharing the same traditional and customary practices.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>He also encouraged both the tribes to preserve their culture and traditional so that they would not lose their identity.<\/div>\n<div>Pointing out that both Konyaks and Wanchos are good producers of organic agricultural products, he urged upon the MLAs of both Konyak and Wancho tribes to explore the feasibility to exporting such organic products. He said this would uplift the economic condition of the people.<\/div>\n<div>Lao ong Mo festival also known as post harvest or annual harvest festival signifies the winding up of all harvest activities, norms and rituals which were practice by every household.<\/div>\n<div>The chief guest also inaugurated the \u201charvest exhibition and sale\u201d stall, where items such as crafts, beadworks and handloom products were displayed. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Other highlights of the celebration were special traditional presentation by Wancho dancing troupe and Thai Ahom dancing troupe and post harvest welcoming song was performed by Angam and friends.<\/div>\n<div>Other dignitaries who attended the Lao-ong Mo festival were advisor to chief minister, Shingnyu; parliamentary secretary for art &amp; culture, Eshak Konyak; parliamentary secretary for agriculture, Y.M Yollow, parliamentary secretary for NRLM &amp; evaluation, Pohwang, &nbsp;advisor state lottery, NBDA, Neiba, N. Thongwang, MLA, deputy commissioner Mon, W.
