{"id":2751,"date":"2021-12-14T15:04:57","date_gmt":"2021-12-14T15:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/?p=2751"},"modified":"2025-04-02T11:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T06:22:09","slug":"repeal-afspa-npp-state-unit-demands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2021\/12\/14\/repeal-afspa-npp-state-unit-demands\/","title":{"rendered":"Repeal AFSPA: NPP state unit demands"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State\u2019s National People\u2019s Party (NPP) addressing media fraternity at its office at Thahekhu, Dimapur, stated that the Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) should be repealed immediately and asserted that unless the act was removed or repealed, unjustified killings would continue.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State NPP president, Dr. Andrew Ahoto while addressing media said that the draconian law AFSPA had been misused by the armed forces for unjustified killings and demanded for the repeal of the act.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that when their party visited Oting and Mon on December 8 and 9 for spot verification and to pay homage to the victims, he claimed that they were stopped at Tizit gate where police personnel had stopped party workers from entering the village, claiming that they had received orders from the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this regard, he however said that the police personnel failed to show the order received from the state government, adding that it was just a telephonic order.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He questioned why the state government was barring \u201csome\u201d political parties and news reporters from entering to the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCategorically the state government had handpicked and biased towards some parties and news reporter\u201d, he stated and that the same should not happen in a democratic country as India.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that no Nagas should be stopped to enter into a Naga territory unless there was a volatile situation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He disclosed that after speaking with village elders and leaders it was learned that everything was staged and questioned why security forces had possession of old camouflage cloths to be put onto the dead bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also questioned why the dead bodies were rolled on polythene bags and hidden in the back of the truck.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Andrew said that the armed forces wanted to sabotage the ongoing peace talks and derail it and said strong actions should be taken against all the perpetrators. He said the state and district administrative were also to be blamed. Had the DC and SP intervened on time, many lives would have been saved he said, and questioned why they were late.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, general secretary political affairs, state NPP, Ricky Ozukum stated that the controversial AFSPA should be repealed as past history should not be repeated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said security forces had been misusing the act by committing thousands of extra judicial killings, burning down hundreds of villages and used the act to commit sexual crime against North East Women which had gone unnoticed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricky stated that many Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were filed against the act and that there had been many commissions that recommended the government of India to repeal the act.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that the Supreme Court had also given many rulings and recommendations to the government of India, adding that on July 8, 2016, SC had given a ruling that anybody, be it an army personnel or of any rank, would not have the immunity under AFSPA for unjustified killings.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this regard, he said that government of India had turned a blind eye to this as killings were continuing till today and would continue go on unless the act was removed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He demanded that no court martial be done under this act and that the army personnel involved should be tried at a civilian court.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricky said that the NPP state demanded for all jawans involved in the killing be given capital punishment and that central government should sanction their prosecution immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also demanded suspension of deputy commissioner (DC) and supernatant of police for their negligence, and Naga People\u2019s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) to take the matter seriously.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, general secretary (organisation), state NPP, Lima Longkumer, general secretary (media), NPP state, Tohovi Achumi and vice president, central national people\u2019s party youth front, Atoka Awomi also briefed the gathering on the incident and their visit to Oting and reiterated their demand on the removal of AFSPA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State\u2019s National People\u2019s Party (NPP) addressing media fraternity at its office at Thahekhu, Dimapur, stated that the Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) should be repealed immediately and asserted that unless the act was removed or repealed, unjustified killings would continue.&nbsp; &nbsp; State NPP president, Dr. Andrew Ahoto while addressing media said that the draconian [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[679],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2751","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-nagaland-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2751","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2751"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2751\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2751"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2751"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2751"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
