Amid tensions along Assam-Nagaland border after the miscreants allegedly from Assam side destroying plantations belonging to villagers of Yajang C under Mokokchung district, the Central Nagaland Students\u2019 Association (CNSA) and Ao Students\u2019 Conference (AKM) have urged the state government to urgently look into the matter before the tension and conflict intensified.
In a press release, CNSA president R Sunep Pongen and AKM president Nungdokyanger Ao stated that they visited Yajang C Village on learning about the reports of Assam police and some Assam villagers \u201cdeliberately destroying\u201d standing crops of cultivated land and plantations belonging to Yajang C Village on June 27, 2022 (Sunday) while all the villagers were attending Church service.
CNSA and AKM said they conducted on-spot verification on June 29, 2022 and came to the conclusion that the land in question belonged to Yajang C Village (Ao Naga) and was well within the territory of Yajang C village. \u201cIn fact, even the tea estates beyond the land in question belong to Yajang C Village which is being cultivated by Assam Tea Estates by paying tax to the Yajang C Village Council,\u201d CNSA and AKM stated.
The two student bodies said they \u201creject the detestable manipulative acts of the Assam side\u201d, which always misuse their media houses to spread fake news and make illegitimate claims over the Ao Naga ancestral territory.
CNSA and AKM have, therefore, demanded the government of Assam to compensate the affected Yajang C villagers and take necessary action against the concerned Assam police personnel and intruders involved in the June 27 incident.
According to CNSA and AKM, the affected villagers have affirmed to carry out \u201cbefitting course of actions\u201d as the Nagaland government was not taking the border issue seriously.
The two bodies said that the state frequently experiences border issues, but if left unresolved, they would exacerbate existing tensions.
CNSA and AKM have, therefore, urged the government to give the issue top priority and find long-term solutions to ensure that the lives of people in the surrounding areas were preserved and saved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
