A three-day training for volunteers for coordinating outreach services for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) organised by Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) under CARE Disability Project concluded on September 22 at DAN Training Centre, Dimapur.
In a press release, DAN stated that the training programme was attended by 20 \u201cvolunteer disability advocates\u201d from targeted villages.
During the training, resource person, in-charge, DDRC Dimapur, Dr. Imlitemsu Ozukum took the session on \u201cunderstanding disability\u201d, wherein he provided detailed inputs on different types of disabilities and highlighted the different rehabilitative and treatment services available in Nagaland and in the northeast region.
Programme coordinator, SCPD Kohima, Ashe Kiba took a session on the various initiatives under the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities in Nagaland.
She highlighted activities of the Nagaland State Disability Forum and the need for mobilising PWDs and their families into disabled people\u2019s organisations to work collectively towards improving service delivery systems.
In a keynote address, director, DAN, Rev. Fr. Sajan Joseph said that if every village has a volunteer \u201cdisability advocate\u201d, who would stand for the rights of the persons with disabilities, then it would be easier to link every person in need to existing services and programmes by government departments and non-governmental organisations.
Sessions on volunteerism, home based care and follow up, community sensitisation and promotion of disabled people\u2019s organisations were animated by project care disability team consisting of Jiji Joseph, Sedekino Rino, and Latsu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
