{"id":303776,"date":"2022-10-19T01:41:59","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T20:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.com\/?p=303776"},"modified":"2022-10-19T01:42:01","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T20:12:01","slug":"assam-custodial-death-case-psc-demands-sit-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2022\/10\/19\/assam-custodial-death-case-psc-demands-sit-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"Assam \u2018custodial death\u2019 case: PSC demands SIT probe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phom Students\u2019 Conference (PSC) has appealed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to initiate a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the \u201ccustodial death\u201d of late E Henveih Phom, who allegedly beaten to death by Assam police at district jail Sivasagar on August 21, 2022.<br>In a representation to the National Human Rights Commission, the PSC president N Dape Phom and general secretary C Shame Phom said that despite Phom tribal apex bodies presenting the \u201cdetails of the facts and nature of the incident\u201d no probe has taken place.<br>Stating that in a democratic country it was the responsibility of the state government to probe the custodial death and punish those responsible, the PSC has, however, stated that Assam government was \u201csilent and indifferent\u201d since the incident took place.
