A programme on \u201ccontribution of tribal heroes in freedom struggle\u201d, organised by Nagaland University (NU) in collaboration with National Commission for Scheduled Tribe (NCST) under \u201cAzadi ka Amrit Mahotsav\u201d, was held at I. Ihoshe Kinimi hall, NU Lumami, here, on Tuesday.
Speaking at the programme as chief guest, NU vice chancellor, Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik lauded the faculties, staff and students of NU for organising an important programme.
He stated that individual contributions of the tribal communities during India\u2019s struggle for freedom was neglected for so many years after independence.
In this regard, he pointed out that due recognition should be accorded.
Prof. Jagadish also opined that the division among Indians came through the writings of the erstwhile \u201ccolonial masters to suit their benefits.\u201d
He said that Nagaland has \u201calways been a part of that Indian civilisation\u201d and that the state should be proud of it.
In this regard, he said the efforts of NCST to accord due recognition to the contributions of tribal heroes in freedom struggle was a noble initiative.
Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated \u201cposter exhibition\u201d while guest of honour, NCST advisor, Mukesh Kumar Dharma briefed about the role of National Commission for Scheduled Tribe .
The programme was chaired by academic coordinator, Prof. Athungo Ovung and welcome address was delivered by dean, School of Sciences, Prof. M.S. Raw and vote of thanks was proposed by administrative coordinator, Peter Ki.
