Incessant downpour and random dumping of earth dug out by some individuals have caused massive landslide in Kohima while Mon headquarters remained cut off from the rest of the districts and sub-divisions due to major landslide. <\/span><\/div>\n
The road that connects civil secretariat and medical college site towards BSF camp at Nhach\u00fcko, Kohima has been completely cut off since June 2. <\/div>\n
Around 60 metres of the road including retaining and boundary wall, ring wells, concrete footpaths and plantation of one Vesato Dozo were washed away. The landslide also partially affected three houses below the road.  <\/div>\n
On June 5, a group of research scholars from Nagaland University of Geology department led by Prof. G.T. Thong visited the spot and collected the mud sample for studies and research work.  <\/div>\n
On June 2, commissioner and secretary Nagaland state disaster management authority Khrienuo Metha, OSD NSDMA Johnny Ruangmei, SDRF team Kohima led by SI Vingutuo, home guard and civil defence, district administration, power department and others visited the spot to assess the damages.   <\/div>\n
Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind uprooted trees and destroyed several houses and properties in Mon town.  <\/div>\n
The town also remained cut off due to massive landslide at Chingai ward and Papong. <\/div>\n
District administration, PWD and GREF personnel were putting more efforts to clear the road. <\/div>\n
When contacted, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Mon confirmed that several houses were reportedly damaged by landslide and many families affected in Mon town.  Due to inclement weather, there were reports of damages to around 30-40 houses till late evening. However, DDMA Mon expects more reports of damages. <\/div>\n
DDMA has asked the families, whose houses were situated\/located at high risk zone\/area to vacate their house for safety reasons.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
