Sazolie College and St. Joseph\u2019s College (A) organized a workshop and seminar on February 4.
A workshop on \u201cUnderstanding Minority Ethnic Communities of Nagaland: Problems and development deficits\u201d, was organized by OKD institute of Social Change and Development, Guwahati, in collaboration with departments of English and Sociology at Sazolie College, Jotsoma.
Dr. Saswati Choudhury, director, OKD, moderated the workshop. Representatives from Kuki, Tikhir, Yimkhiung and Zeliang gave short presentations on the problems and challenges faced by their community.
Challenges highlighted by the representatives were lack of proper infrastructure in schools, poor road conditions and poor medical facilities.
The problem of political representative was highlighted by both the representatives of Kuki and Tikhir community.
Among the challenges faced by the Tikhir community, unemployment was stated as a major issue.
Representative from Yimkhuing community spoke about the abuse of children as domestic workers.
The representative from Zeliang community stated that social problems such as patriarchal dominance, backwardness in education and diversity in dialect were issues faced by their community.
Earlier in the programme, Waloniba Jamir, vice pincipal Sazolie College delivered the welcome address, Imlisenla, semester VI, presented a special song.
Aphrenuo Pienyu, HoD, Department of Sociology, chaired the programme and Veral\u03cb Vero, Asst. Professor, department of English delivered the vote of thanks.
Department of Economics had organized a seminar, debate and essay competition under the initiative of People\u2019s Education Programme sponsored by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Dimapur.
Topics for essay and debate competition were on \u201cRelevance of Rural Industries in Indian Economy\u201d and \u201cDevelopment of Village Industries is a pre-requisite for India\u2019s Economic Growth\u201d.
The seminar was conducted in the presence of Sanipongen, DCO (KVIC) as the guest speaker and Y.K. Shohe, assistant director (KVIC) as the keynote speaker and hosted by Bakon.
Department of Economicsm Shohe, in his keynote address said that the programme was especially designed for the students in order to make them aware about several Government Schemes which they can utilize to the fullest. He emphasized on how students should be the employment generator, not the employment seeker.
Sanipongen talked on the history of KVIC and its functions. He also stressed on Prime Minister\u2019s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the eligible conditions of beneficiaries, EDP training, etc. The session ended with an interactive session.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
