After Bruce Willis\u2019 family announced in March 2022 that the 67-year-old actor had been diagnosed with aphasia and would retire from acting, his condition has now progressed into frontotemporal dementia.
His family posted a statement on Thursday about Willis\u2019 latest diagnosis, Variety reported.
\u201cSince we announced Bruce\u2019s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce\u2019s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,\u201d his family wrote in a statement on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration\u2019s website.
Rumer Willis also shared the news, along with a photo of her father, on Instagram. Frontotemporal dementia, which is often diagnosed at a younger age than other forms of dementia, is characterised by personality changes, speech difficulty and motor impairment. It\u2019s the cause of 10 per cent to 20 per cent of all dementia diagnoses, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Willis\u2019 acting career began in the early 1980s with roles in films like \u2018The Verdict\u2019, \u2018Blind Date\u2019 and \u2018Sunset\u2019.
In 1985, his career boomed with roles opposite Cybill Shepherd in the ABC series \u2018Moonlighting\u2019 and his iconic performance as action star John McClane in 1988\u2019s \u2018Die Hard\u2019.
