With the objective to enrich culture, the first state-level inter-institutional cultural festival was organized by St Joseph University, Virgin Town, Ikishe Model Village, Ch\u00fcmoukedima on Friday.
It was the first edition of \u201cCultura\u201d which will be held annually. A total of 10 institutions are participating in the event including the University. The activities include competitions on folk song, go-karting, folk drama, oil painting, bamboo crafts, folk fusion dance, women\u2019s tug of war and greased bamboo pole climbing.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur director Dr. Prashanna Gogoi said apart from academic activities, focus should also be made in preserving and promotion of culture and tradition. In this, he also lauded the university for providing platforms to the younger generation to learn and adopt one\u2019s culture which is their identity.
In order to safe guard their tradition and culture, he also suggested for new programmes such as interaction and exchange of students, displaying and learning from each other. He also highlighted on the Yuva Sangam, an initiative of the Government of India towards the cultural exchange and communion of the North-Eastern Region to the rest of India. Gogoi also encouraged the institutions to encouraged the students to participate for exposure.
The programme was chaired by SJU associate professor and head, department of psychology and counselling, Dr. Watinaro, invocation prayer was offered by SJU MMI representatives, Fr. Augustin, welcome address was delivered by SJU assistant professor Dr. Somingam Mawon while vote of thanks was proposed by SJU assistant professor Dr. Heroka. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
