Recently social media carried reports about the visit by an American preacher supposedly pastor of the New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist movement. The cult group was reportedly in Dimapur and also Kohima to cause confusion against the local church and claim to have the truth. The New Independent Church, is identified as a cult group and advocates for the death penalty for homosexuals and prayed for the deaths of former U.S. president Barack Obama and Caitlyn Jenner. The founder, Steven Anderson pastors Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona, has been banned from many countries, including The Netherlands, South Africa, United Kingdom, Botswana, Canada, Jamaica, the Schengen Area, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The reason why the cult group was expelled recently is because the teachings are bound to cause serious law and order problems. The term cult are applied to the destructive groups from both a Christian and non-Christian perspective. Cults believe that some of Jesus’ teaching was omitted from the Bible or was subverted by self-seeking, godless men. The result, they say, is a contemporary Christian church that doesn’t teach the truth. Cults attract followers by claiming they possess newly revealed truth. New truth often centers on an individual with a supposed pipeline to God, a new set of scriptures, or both. “The Bible is OK,” they say, but it’s not enough. They say there is need for the extra book of scriptures or the correct interpretation of the Bible so as to have divine sufficient truth. Cults try to convince people that they cannot have access to these new truths through any other group. Many cults claim some sort of spiritual connection to Jesus yet distort the claims He made about Himself in the Bible. They refuse to accept Him on His terms. The Mormons believe that Jesus is an exalted man, not the eternal Son of God. To the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jesus is Michael, the archangel. To the Moonies, Jesus was a very good man who failed in His mission. The Way International asserts that Jesus was a specially created, perfect man. The late Dr Billy Graham one of the world’s most respected and non-controversial evangelist, identified cults from the following: Cults can take many forms. Some cults are openly and clearly influenced by non-Christian religions (such as some that originate in the Far East). Others, however, claim to be Christian and may actually incorporate some of the teachings of Christianity, while they deny certain truths in the Bible. Cults substitute their own ideas for the truth which God has given us. Cults differ but most do not accept the bible wholly as God’s word. Cults also commonly claim that they alone correctly interpret the truth and that Christian denominations and churches are wrong in their teaching. Some notable Christian cult groups include: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormonism),The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah’s Witnesses),The Church of Scientology,The Twelve Tribes,The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (Unification Church),The International Churches of Christ (Boston Movement),The Family (Children of God),Christian Identity Movement (Aryan Nations, Christian Identity Church, Klu Klux Klan, etc.),The Nation of Islam (Black Muslims) and the United Pentecostal Church (UPC).

It appears that some Christian cult groups are beginning to look at Nagaland as a fertile ground to plant the seeds of doubt so as to destroy the established church weakened by cynicism and too much compromises that have devalued the quality of the faith.
