Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has revised its existing rules to align with New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommendations by incorporating new provisions in the conduct of examinations.
Accordingly, in order to facilitate students improve their grades or marks to pursue higher education with their choice of subjects, provision has been given to qualified\/passed candidates to appear Improvement Examination in the same year. A successful candidate at the HSLC\/HSSLC examination desirous of improving his\/her performance would be given one chance in June\/July the same year to appear in three or less subjects.
This provision would also help students to have the best of two examination option as envisioned in NEP 2020. Provision for candidates who qualified at the HSLC examination but secured \u2018Needs Improvement\u2019 in one subject will be given the opportunity to reappear in the \u2018Needs Improvement\u2019 subject at the immediate examination so that they can apply for courses, fulfil certain recruitment criteria and employment where they need to pass in all the subjects they have opted.
Besides the HSLC compartmental examination, compartmental examination for HSSLC students will be introduced with effect from 2023.
Two chances to appear compartmental examination will be allowed to clear the failed subjects in order to reduce and prevent dropout rate at HSLC and HSSLC examinations.
A candidate who appeared the HSLC\/HSSLC examination conducted by NBSE and placed in \u2018Needs Improvement\u2019\/\u2019Failed\u2019 category will be eligible to appear in all the subjects as repeater in the subsequent board examination. This category of candidates will appear the HSLC\/HSSLC examination as per the prescribed syllabi and courses laid down for the examination concerned.
The heads of institutions have been requested to note the revised\/new rules and disseminate it to teachers, students and parents\/guardians. The revised\/new rules will be implemented with effect from this year.
