Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed the delegates to the \u201cLand of Festivals\u201d at the welcome-cum-dinner programme at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima for the B20 delegates from G20 countries.
In his speech, Rio said that Nagas were known as war warriors in the past, but now have become peace warriors with the advent of Christianity. Rio focused on the state\u2019s weather, its green cover, culture and heritage to woo investors from other nations to invest in various sectors in Nagaland .
Rio mentioned that though Nagaland lacked in infrastructure, yet was endowed with favourable climatic condition and 80% of land covered by forest.
\u201cWe live with Mother Nature with our rich tradition and culture while upholding the Naga customary practices,\u201d he said.
He also said that Nagas have been protected since the British days with the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873 and later the Government of India also gave special protection under Article 371(A) of the Constitution. He said it was because of these laws that the Nagas have been able to protect their rich tradition.
He told the delegates that Nagaland was a tribal State comprising of many different tribes that spread not only to neighbouring States but also beyond the country. He said that Nagas were rich in culture and traditions and that the State still followed customary laws under the provision of Article 371(A) of the Constitution .
Rio also appreciated Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for extending help to the State in hosting the B20 event. On the occasion, Rio also released the Summit Booklet. Highlights of the programme included traditional dances and songs performed by artistes of various age groups showcasing the vibrant culture of Naga society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
