She was 74.<br>\u201cWith heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 a.m. today in Mumbai,\u201d said the family statement.<br>The family also requested \u201cfor privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection\u201d and expressed gratitude to all for their prayers.<br>Pamela nee Singh, was ailing for a couple of weeks and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment where she breathed her last this morning, a Bollywood source said.<br>She is survived by her two sons &#8211; Aditya Chopra, film-maker who is married to actress Rani Mukherjee, and actor-producer Uday Chopra.<br>Pamela, a cousin of the renowned actress and now TV hostess Simi Garewal, was married in 1970 to Yash Chopra, the younger brother of the legendary film-maker B.R.Chopra, a Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee.<br>Yash Chopra, also a Dadasaheb Phalke Award laureate, passed away in Mumbai in October 2012, aged 80, due to dengue fever.<br>Singing in Hindi and Punjabi after marriage, Pamela Chopra is remembered for several popular numbers like the vivacious \u2018Main sasural nahin jaoongi\u2019 (Chandni, 1989), folk song \u2018Banno ki aayegi baraat\u2019 (Aaina, 1993), \u2018Ghar aaja pardesi\u2019 (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, 1995), sad number \u2018Surkh jode ki ye jagmagahat\u2019 (Kabhie Kabhie, 1976), a courtesan song \u2018Idhar aa sitamgar\u2019 (Sawaal, 1982), a qawwali \u2018Aashiq ho to aisa ho\u2019 and the sombre \u2018Uske khel nirale\u2019 (both from Noorie, 1979), \u2018Ja re behna ja\u2019 (Trishul, 1978).<br>She sang solo and duets, for several leading music composers like the late Mohammed Zahur Hashmi \u2018Khayyam\u2019, Rajesh Roshan, Shiv-Hari, Jatin-Lalit, Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen and others, though mostly for films made by her family banner.<br>Pamela had other roles too, like co-writer for \u2018Kabhie Kabhie\u2019, producer for \u2018Aaina\u2019, Associate Producer for one of Bollywood\u2019s biggest superhits \u2018Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge\u2019, and also for \u2018Mohabbatein\u2019, \u2018Mujhse Dosti Karoge\u2019, \u2018Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai\u2019, \u2018Veer Zara\u2019, co-producer and writer of \u2018Dil To Paagal Hai\u2019, and the dress designer for \u2018Silsila\u2019 and \u2018Sawaal\u2019.<br>A trained dancer, along with her late husband, she once made a brief on-screen appearance in the song \u2018Ek Duuje Ke Vaaste\u2019 (Dil To Paagal Hai).<br>Bollywood reacted with shock and grief over Pamela\u2019s demise and many actors, actresses, producers, directors, composers, and others posted condolence messages on social media. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Noted playback singer Pamela Chopra &#8211; widow of the czar of romantic films, Yash Chopra &#8211; passed away in Mumbai, her family announced here on Thursday.
