Department of Sociology Nagaland University, organized a one-day International symposium under the theme \u201cPathways to Peace\u201d on May 8.
PRO of NU in a press release informed that the event was held at the Conference Hall, department of Geography with Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, professor J K Patnaik as chief guest. Resource persons for the symposium were Prof. Yasmin Saikia Chair Professor Peace Studies, Arizona State University, USA, Dr. Chad Haines Associate Professor, Religious Studies, Arizona State University and Dr. Madhumita Sengupta, IIT Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Nazimuddin Siddique, assistant professor department of Sociology, Nagaland University. In his inaugural speech Professor Patnaik called for a collaborative peace studies of Nagaland University with the Arizona State University by signing up a Memorandum of Understanding (Mou).
The second session held on the theme, \u201cAvenues of Peace: Roads, Globalisation and the politics of movement\u201d was chaired by Dr. Suraj Beri, Assistant professor, Nagaland University.
Resource person Dr. Chad Haines gave the introductory note and explained that many people don\u2019t lived in conflict ridden society but lived in repressive society, where there was socio-economic inequality. Resource person of the third session on \u201cthe cultural resonances of partition: revisiting the partition and it\u2019s memories\u201d was Dr. Srikanth Yamsani. In all the three sessions, the speakers thoroughly engaged the attendees from different perspectives and contexts theoretically as well through their experiences and research studies.
Prof. Toshimenla Jamir gave the closing remarks for the symposium and highlighted the significance of sharing ideas and experiences on transforming through the study of peace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
