Actress Judi Dench, 88, says it\u2019s \u201cghastly\u201d to be \u201cso dependent\u201d on others and unable to read scripts because of her degenerative eye condition, which has left her barely able to see.
The \u2018Skyfall\u2019 star says she wants to work \u201cas much as I can\u201d, despite the difficulties she\u2019s having learning her lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dench was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration in 2012, and the star\u2019s sight has deteriorated a lot.
Despite the difficulties, the star, once described as \u201cthe best thing about Britain alongside fish and chips\u201d, has no plans to retire anytime soon, Mirror UK reported.
Dench, perhaps most famed for her role as M16 chief M in James Bond, says she wants to work \u201cas much as I can\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI mean I can\u2019t see on a film set any more,\u201d Dench told Notebook. \u201cAnd I can\u2019t see to read. So I can\u2019t see much. But you know you just deal with it. Get on. It\u2019s difficult for me if I have any length of a part. I haven\u2019t yet found a way. Because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was forced to give up driving a few years ago when her eyesight began to worsen.
\u201cIt\u2019s the most terrible shock to the system,\u201d she had said previously. \u201cGhastly. It\u2019s terrible to be so dependent on people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Judi has achieved what most actors can only dream of in a career spanning six decades. In addition to numerous BAFTAs, a Tony Award and an Oscar \u2013 awarded for her powerful portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in \u2018Shakespeare In Love\u2019 \u2013 Judi made theatre history in 2016 when she picked up a record-breaking eighth Olivier Award.
