{"id":3764,"date":"2008-07-07T00:02:17","date_gmt":"2008-07-07T00:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2008\/07\/07\/world-zoonoses-day-observed\/"},"modified":"2008-07-07T00:02:17","modified_gmt":"2008-07-07T00:02:17","slug":"world-zoonoses-day-observed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2008\/07\/07\/world-zoonoses-day-observed\/","title":{"rendered":"World Zoonoses Day observed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/photo3.jpg>On the World Zoonoses Day, department of Animal Production and Management, (APM), School of Agriculture Science and Rural Development (SASRD), NU, Medziphema organized \u201cdog vaccination and animal health care camp\u201d under the theme \u2018for a healthier life\u2019 to create awareness about the spread of infectious diseases transmitted from animal to human beings. <br \/>The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Nicky Kire, MLA and chairman, Nagaland Khadi &amp; Village Industries Board as chief guest and Dr. C. Rajkhowa, director, NRC on Mithun, Jarnapani, Medziphema as guest of honour.<br \/>Addressing the gathering, the chief guest encouraged the veterinarians and doctors to bring people together by working with team spirit and fight against zoonotic diseases like rabies and TB to bring the society in better position. <br \/>Emphasizing on prevention of legislation and acts on Prevention of Zoonoses, he said the already enacted acts which is not practical in the state should be put up to the government adding it as necessary to be followed by people. <br \/>Expressing dissatisfaction over the unhygienic act of slaughtering animals on roads and even in houses he requested the people to have better equipments while slaughtering animals. He also urged medical officers and veterinarians to organize health camps besides observing Zoonoses Day.<br \/>Meanwhile, the chief guest also released \u2018practical manual on animal hygiene\u2019 on the occasion. <br \/>Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour emphasized the spread of zoonotic diseases, its cause and measures. According to the report, out of 1415 infectious agents 61.6 are zoonotic in nature being transmitted from animals to human beings. Some of the emergence factors of zoonotic diseases included change in environment, human animal demography, pathogen changes, change in farming practice and social and environment factors like food habits and religious belief play a role.&nbsp; Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr. M. Catherine Rutsa, lecturer in APM department who delivered a prelude on World Zoonoses Day, Dr. Zase Ch\u00fcsi on legislation and Acts on prevention of zoonoses. <br \/>More than 200 dogs were vaccinated and free medicines were also distributed for animal treatment. <br \/>The department also conducted an interactive session with Dr. Molusen Jamir and Dr. Kobu Khate as moderators. <br \/>It may be mentioned that the department has assured to conduct animals health camps in different parts of the state to spread the knowledge of prevention and necessary precautions for the pets and to minimize the death rate due to such diseases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the World Zoonoses Day, department of Animal Production and Management, (APM), School of Agriculture Science and Rural Development (SASRD), NU, Medziphema organized \u201cdog vaccination and animal health care camp\u201d under the theme \u2018for a healthier life\u2019 to create awareness about the spread of infectious diseases transmitted from animal to human beings.
