DMC chairperson in a press release said the \u201caccusation\u201d of the nine members was ridiculous given the fact that the decisions to carryout the demolition drive were first taken during the tenures of the previous two chairpersons. \u201cThe notifications thereon were also issued by them. The Municipal Council is presently executing the decisions taken earlier but theretofore left unattended by the previous Chairpersons for reasons best known to them,\u201d Khekaho said. He also said that whilst the members had every right to voice their dissent, they must not remain absent from attending office and then indulge in \u201csenseless propaganda\u201d by accusing the present chairperson and the other councilors of carrying out the demolition drive.
Affirming that the development of Dimapur into a prosperous and beautiful city was the prime objective of the Municpal Council, the chairperson said towards this pursuit, it was also the duty of every citizen including the DMC councillors to cooperate and support the Municipal Council. \u201cIn the quest for beautifying the city some sacrifices have to be made by everybody. These sacrifices must necessarily cut across party lines or affiliation, rank or status. The demolition of illegal structures and encroachments has obviously ruffled many feathers,\u201d he added.
However, the Municipal Council urged the denizens of Dimapur to keep in mind that public interest must prevail. \u201cIt would also be worthwhile to remember that there is a world of difference between genuine constructive criticism and remarks aimed at gaining cheap mileage and\/or personal gain,\u201d Khekaho added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
