\nNPCC president Hokheto Sumi in a press release urged the NPF to vote in favour of the UPA Government, considering the importance and necessity of nuclear energy for the State of Nagaland in particular and the Nation as a whole.
\nThe NPF Party had earlier issued a whip to the State\u2019s lone Lok Sabha and party MP Wangyuh Konyak to vote against the UPA Government.
\nHokheto said one of the most important constraints on the country\u2019s economic growth was the availability of energy with a major challenge being to increase the supply of electricity and other forms of energy in order to accelerate industrial development and bring about better infrastructure and more efficient public transport.
\n\u201cThe demand for supply of electricity in the State is still very high and we must realize the importance to have sufficient and regular power supply to meet the requirements of economic growth in the State,\u201d he added.
\nPointing out that the most common means of generating electricity were through burning of coal, tapping of river current and burning natural gas and petroleum, the NPCC president said burning of coal and oil have a harmful effects on environment and contributed to pollution and global warming.
\nOn the other hand, he said \u201cthe nuclear industry is unique in that it is the only energy-producing industry that has taken full responsibility for the disposal of all its wastes and meets the full cost of doing so. Nuclear energy also does not contribute to global warming. So, nuclear energy will be a clean and an affordable source of energy to the people.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
