Minister of Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir on Tuesday acknowledged the contribution of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) and reminded them of their role and responsibilities and continue to contribute towards the social and economic growth of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Metsubo was speaking as special guest at the two-days inaugural programme of the Dimapur district NRLM SHG expo at Naga shopping Arcade, near Hotel Saramati, Dimapur organized by District Rural Development Agency ( DRDA), Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), District Mission Management Unit (DMMU), Dimapur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister pointed out that the positive impact of the SHGs in the state has helped the women to be empowered and take charge of their finances and future. \u201cOur women who were once considered dependent, have now become self-reliant not just for themselves but for the families\u201d, Metsubo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the women despite with limited resource have been making significant contribution to social and economic progress and described pointed them as \u201cunsung heroes\u201d.
The minister also lauded the commendable job off NRLM in giving hand holding support to every aspect of SHGs progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Metsubo lamented that a market was yet to be fully explored and appreciated, and encouraged the NSRLM to identify the significant hurdle in distribution and marketing of the local products.
Metsubo admitted that market linkage was another critical aspects that needed to be addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister also spoke on the importance of E-commerce, to bridge the gap between the sellers and customers, by showcasing their products and connect rural women to national and international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister also inaugurated the SHG marketing project shelf at Hotel Saramati Dimapur.
Delivering short speech, RD and mission director joint secretary, Imtimenla pointed out that it was first of its kind, that has been organized with the objective to provide maximum exposure for the SHGs which has been untapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other objective was to provide direct linkage between the seller and the customer providing platform to showcase the local products, to help in value addition marketing.
She informed that the SHGs that has potential will be selected and sent to national SARAS Fairs to be held in different parts of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imtimenla also informed that the Regional SARAS Fair will commence from December 1 to 10, which will coincide with the Hornbill Festival, and encouraged all the SHGs to participate in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DRDA DMMU Dimapur PD-cum-DMM, Moa Sangtam who delivered welcome address mentioned that SHGs group namely Chumukedima, Kuhuboto, Nuiland Aghunaqa, Medziphema and Dhansiripar participated in the expo displaying local products and traditional accessories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He mentioned that the SHGs were invited to participate in the two-day expo to boost SHGs products. Sangtam also mentioned about the marketing shelves project that has been set up in four locations displaying the local products at Hotel Saramati, Tourist lodge, The garden and CIHSR canteen. He encouraged the general public to support and encourage the SHGs by buying their products and also showcase their products through social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme was chaired by BMMU Dhansiripar AC(FI)Vinikali K Yepthomi and invocation by Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur pastor K Thejamo Tsanglao.
