State deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang, who flagged off the \u201cTribal March of Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas 2023\u201d on Thursday called upon the people to the defeat tribalism and promote unity among the Naga people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, deputy chief minister Zeliang highlighted the significance of November 15 as a day dedicated to honouring the contributions of tribal freedom fighters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to DIPR report, he urged the community to trace and document the lives and contributions of such personalities from the Naga community.
The deputy chief minister noted that the day coincides with the Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda, a prominent tribal freedom fighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zeliang emphasized the importance of remembering tribal leaders \u201cwho may have been overlooked in the broader context of India\u2019s independence struggle.\u201d
Expressing his wish for a successful \u201cTribal March\u201d, Zeliang hoped that the event would foster unity and a sense of brotherhood among the tribes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the keynote address, secretary of tribal affairs department, Angelina Tajen, acknowledged the significant contributions of tribals in nation-building, culture, heritage, freedom struggle, values, national pride, and hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She highlighted the government\u2019s recognition of tribal contributions, leading to the implementation of various welfare schemes for tribal communities. Tajen announced that \u201cJan Jatiya Gaurav Divas 2023\u201d would be a fifteen-day celebration, featuring activities showcasing the unique culture, traditions, foods, arts, and crafts of the tribal communities.
