The Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS) has invited interested scholars and experts to undertake formal research on four subjects of interest\u2013 the Ongjinaro plant, an unexplored cave, remnants of Ahom swords, and wild edible mushrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press note, MCTS said that the Ongjinaro (Sarcandra glabra) is endemic to the village and is a popular ornamental plant used especially during Christmas season. However, apart from that, there are no other known uses of the plant in the village. Interested individuals are invited to research and explore its aromatic and medicinal values, if any.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also said that there is an unexplored and unnamed natural cave in the village vicinity, for which interested speleologists, geologists, and experienced cavers are invited to explore and document the cave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are also remnants of what is believed to be swords left behind by the Ahom army during their abortive invasion of the village circa 1836 during the reign of the last Ahom king Purandar Singha. Archaeologists or competent experts have an opportunity here to study the remnants of the Ahom swords being kept at the village museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MCTS said that there are about 40 wild, naturally grown, edible mushrooms the villagers are familiar with. These mushrooms are mostly foraged and harvested during the monsoons, grown both on earth as well as logs.
