DIMAPUR: Realising the importance of proper waste management practices and the opportunity it provides, Science and Technology Intervention in North Eastern Region-Technology Facilitation Centre (STINER-TFC), School of Agricultural Sciences: Nagaland University (SAS:NU) Medziphema campus conducted hands on training on \u201centrepreneurship through waste management\u201d in four districts.
A press release by STNER-TFC, SAS:NU Medziphema stated that the trainings were conducted in collaboration with Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), The Entrepreneur Associates (tEA) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto at Old Mangakhi Village, Tuensang on February 7, Jungyam Fishery Farm, Noklak on February 8, Amahator and New Risethsi Village, Kiphire on February 10 and at Nagaland University, Lumami, Zunheboto on February 13 respectively.
STINER said the training was a significant step towards fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in waste management practices.
By providing participants with practical insights, tools, and techniques, it said the training seeks to catalyse the development of sustainable business models that address pressing environmental challenges while creating economic opportunities.
Project in-charge, STINER-TFC, professor Akali Sema emphasised that the north eastern region was endowed with rich natural resources, but it also faces unique waste management challenges.
Recognizing the importance of local solution to local problem, she said STINER was committed to empowering communities towards economic resiliencies.
The eight-day training ended at Nagaland University Lumami with NU registrar, Dr. Abemo as the special guest. He encouraged the farmers to capitalize on the opportunity presented before them.
