In continuation of the \u201cNational Mathematics Day Celebration\u201d under the theme, \u201cMathematics for everyone\u201d, an inter-school mathematics seminar was organised by the Nagaland Science and Technology Council (NASTEC) on March 15 at the Conference Hall of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) Kohima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A press release by NS&TC informed that the event saw enthusiastic participation from 11 schools from Kohima with Professor Teisovi Gerard Meyase from the department of mathematics, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma as the resource person.
Addressing the students, Meyase said maths should be seen not as a tool but as a creative work of art form. He also emphasised the fact that mathematics was completely free of prejudice and that it unites all people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seminar cum competition witnessed the participants presenting their research, mathematical discoveries, and innovative solutions to real-world problems and, most importantly, signifying the colossal importance of mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presentations were judged based on three criteria, which were quality, clarity and the effective use of their visuals. The first prize was bagged by Keneicheno Rh\u00fctso of Mezh\u00fcr Higher Secondary School, second by Vileto Yhoshu of Ministers\u2019 Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, and third by Meba Aihun Lating of Bethel Higher Secondary School. The judges for the event were reader mathematics, SCERT, Lanukala I Jamir, and Vemuri Vero and Niko Krome of NASTEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was catalysed and supported by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), the department of science and technology, government of India. The seminar led by assistant teacher DBHSSK, Tsote-\u00fc Wetsah, commenced with a prayer by Fr. P.J Varghese, SDB, which was followed by a welcome speech from DBHSSK principal, Fr. T.
