National People\u2019s Party (NPP), supporting the NDPP-led oppositionless government in the state, has announced that the party would contest the ensuing Municipal and Town council elections in Nagaland scheduled to be held on June 26, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was disclosed to media persons by NPP National general secretary, James Sangma, after the party\u2019s meeting here on Friday. Sangma said the party would contest the elections in constituencies wherever NPP has sitting legislators and in areas where there was demand for NPP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked whether NPP would contest for all wards despite supporting NDPP-led oppositionless government, James maintained that the support was issue-based and that it would be irresponsible on the part of the party to not be a part of the state government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He however pointed out that the forthcoming ULB election was an opportunity for NPP to expand its presence and reinforce its commitment to \u201cgrassroots democracy.\u201d
On whether the party would be setting up women candidates, Sangma reiterated the party\u2019s commitment on women reservation and encouraged their active participation in the electoral process.
He also said the party will welcome any intending women candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked about the specific areas the party would set up candidates, Sangma highlighted the party\u2019s focus on addressing existing civic issues and introducing innovative solutions. He also cited the NPP\u2019s prepared manifesto as evidence of party\u2019s commitment to better governance.
Elaborating on NPP\u2019s vision for the ULB election, Sangma stressed on the importance of resolving longstanding problems and improving civic amenities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also outlined the party\u2019s proactive approach on governance and emphasized the need for fresh ideas and innovation in managing civic sectors. The NPP leader also said his visit was not only to announce the party\u2019s participation in the ULB polls but also to participate in the state unit meeting, review party organization, and discuss political dynamics, particularly concerning the Lok Sabha elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, NPP state unit spokesperson, Ranjit Singhvi, clarified on the issue regarding candidate nominations in the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organization (ENPO) area.
