Following the death of three Nagaland police personnel due to heat stroke on separate occasions while on election duty in Bihar and another personnel deployed in Punjab for election duty, the State police said that the process for ex-gratia has already been duly initiated for speedy compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a communiqu\u00e9 issued by the Police Headquarters (PHQ), the State police expressed that while the loss of life cannot be compensated in terms of money, the Election Commission and Nagaland Police were committed to doing whatever is necessary to bring relief and support to the families of the deceased personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acknowledging the supreme sacrifice made and as per the Election Commission India guidelines for ex-gratia payment to polling personnel\/ police personnel in case of death or grievous injuries arising out of and in the course of election duty, PHQ said that an amount of Rs 15 lakhs was credited to the account of the wife of late Constable Yangtsase Sangtam on June 6 by the Government of Punjab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to PHQ, Constable Yangtsase Sangtam of B Coy 13 IRBn after performing Prime Minister\u2019s Election rally duty in Patiala, Punjab on May 23 had a tragic accidental fall from a building and succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of May 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The body was flown to Nagaland with magnanimous and quick assistance from Election Commission and Punjab Police and laid to rest with full honours befitting policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Subsequently, three more personnel of the IRBn also lost their lives while on duty on in Bihar during the General Parliamentary Election, 2024. The process for ex-gratia has already been duly initiated for speedy compensation, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The State Police Headquarters said that the State police had always responded to the call of duty be it in maintenance of law and order and public peace in the State, tackling left wing extremism outside the State or election duty across the country\u2019 performing such challenging task to the extent of risking their lives.
