Governor of Maharashtra Dr S. C.Jamir and his wife Alemla were honoured with a rousing celebration on the occasion of their golden jubilee marriage anniversary at the family home in New Chukumedima Saturday attended among others by Nagaland Governor K.Sankaranarayanan,Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat and his wife, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and his wife, vice admiral Shekhar Sinha and his wife, Lt Gen (rtd)R. N. Kapoor, a host of ministers, parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, government officials, prominent citizens and well wishers. Responding to the felicitations, Dr Jamir took the opportunity to thank God for being faithful in preserving his life even when he walked \u201cin the valley of the shadow of death\u201d in his political career. He encouraged all to accept God as the ultimate arbiter of our destinies adding \u201cif God be with us who can be against us?\u201d\nOn the coincidence of the wedding day-February 14,1959-Jamir said in his time, they had no idea what was Valentine\u2019s Day. He said Valentine\u2019s Day was just as much a coincidence as the first meeting of the Naga People\u2019s Convention(NPC) held in Mokokchung on his wedding day, to draft the 16-Point Agreements with the Government of India that became the framework for the creation of Nagalnd state.
\nOn the fifty years of marriage, Jamir said his wife Alemla was the pillar of his strength by being a devoted wife, mother, home maker and a source of comfort during the ups and downs of his life. He also evoked laughter among all, while narrating about when, how and why he decided to marry Alemla, the daughter of his late father\u2019s best friend.
\nEarlier giving a short welcome, Addl.Chief Secretary and APC Alemtemshi Jamir IAS, said Dr Jamir\u2019s journey of fifty years of wedded life, was also like the tortuous journey of the creation of Nagaland state. He said Dr Jamir survived bullets of assassins and bomb blasts and thanked God for preserving his life. Those present on the dais included the usher at the wedding of Dr Jamir and the bridesmaid.Gifts were presented to Padmashree Chubala Shilu, who did the make up for Mrs Alemla for the wedding besides those who contributed for the preparations fifty years ago.
\nNagaland Governor K.Sankaranarayan, while presenting bouquets, informed that he had been asked by the President of India Mrs Pratibha Patil, to present bouquets to Dr Jamir and his wife on the occasion. Highlights of the function included scintillating songs and testimonies by the grand children of Mrs and Dr S.C.Jamir besides performances by Ballet Fusion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
