Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in collaboration with Tuensang District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on August 1 set up comprehensive relief camps at C Khel, Tuensang village ground, Youth Hall and Old Church for victims affected by landslides and land sinking at Phinjang sector and NST Ward in Tuensang district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The landslide had impacted 200 households and caused significant damage to infrastructure, disrupting normal lives. Evacuation order was given by the DDMA and 64 individuals from 11 families had so far registered to stay at the relief camps, out of which 34 are children and 35 adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to commissioner & secretary, Lhouchalie Viya more people were expected to register at the relief camp in the coming days. He claimed that the immediate need for shelter, food and medical assistance had been addressed through the setting up of relief camps, adding that the response was done effectively adhering to the incident response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said relief operations were being done in close collaboration with the respective ward leaders to streamline and ensure that no victim was left out, while further assessments and ongoing support were being closely monitored by the NSDMA and Tuensang DDMA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NSDMA had also sent a technical team to DDMA Tuensang DDMA for investigation in the landslide-affected site to take stock of possible method of mitigation work. The commissioner & secretary said almost all areas from where many families had been evacuated due to landslides in other districts such as Mon, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Kohima as well as Tuensang were not safe for human settlement because of the terrain and geological factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Claiming that the state government was addressing the immediate need of the affected people and working to salvage such difficulties faced by the people, he maintained that reducing the residual risk was the responsibility of everyone, stressing that uncertainty should not be a reason for inaction to build safer and resilient communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He advised the public to exercise abundant caution and not to settle in vulnerable areas, as this would endanger human lives and loss of lifetime savings properties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
